The Boundary Bay Montessori School (BBMS) students (Years 6 and 7) are honoured to participate in the Montessori Model United Nations on March 9-12, 2016, in New York, NY.
In accordance with the core principles of Montessori education, the participating students are expected to develop a connected network to support each other, practice cooperation and compromise and continue to work on a self-directed environment.
Our attending students are expected to formulate, present, debate and revise positions on current issues that affect people of the world. By assuming the perspectives of a citizen of their elected countries (Montenegro), the students will develop an understanding of the needs and rights of others, and will also learn to respect the cultures, political views and the belief system of others. They have already started the hard work of writing position papers and learning all there is to learn about Montenegro.
Taking on their ambassadorial roles in a Model United Nations (Model UN) simulation, students research the issue that their United Nations Committees will address. Our students will learn how the international community acts on its concerns about topics including peace and security, human rights, the rights of the child, child labour, the environment, food and hunger, economic development and globalization.
The BBMS kindly requests your invaluable support to this amazing opportunity to empower our children towards building a better world based in peace, respect and tolerance.
