Boundary Bay Montessori School Celebrates 25 Years of Montessori Education in Ladner

Local School Marks Anniversary with Celebration at Harris Barn

Thursday, September 3, 2015, Delta BC – Ladner’s own Boundary Bay Montessori School has achieved a significant milestone. It has been 25 years since the school opened its doors to preschoolers and elementary students in Delta and beyond.

The story goes back to 1990 and a small group of local families who wanted their children to continue their Montessori education beyond preschool. “It was a leap of faith financially for the first families,” recalls Sharee Proudfoot, one of the founding families. “It was a challenge in that we had to find an appropriate location, meet all the Municipal by-laws and Provincial educational requirements.”

These efforts have paid off. Since that time, Boundary Bay Montessori School has established itself in a beautiful agricultural setting on 72nd Street and has seen hundreds of students attend preschool and elementary programs.

To mark its 25th year, the school is holding a gala event at Harris Barn on September 12. “We have 25 years to celebrate, having developed a quality preschool and elementary Montessori educational program for children 3-12 in South Delta,” says Proudfoot. “The Gala will bring together present and past students, their families and staff to enjoy personal memories of being part of the Montessori community.”

The Gala will feature dinner and refreshments, a “Then and Now” wall showcasing past students and the introduction of the BBMS “Legacy Tree” and bursary fund that will help support quality Montessori education for the next 25 years and beyond.

Gala tickets are available for purchase on the school’s website at www.bbmschool.ca or by calling 604-946-9814.
